Should you carry an umbrella to work, plan the trek this weekend, or hang the washing out? This page answers that in a few seconds. Search for a city, and you get the temperature right now, how it feels, the wind and humidity, and a forecast for the next seven days. It opens with Kathmandu, and it remembers the last place you looked up.
How to use the weather forecast
- Type a city or town in the search box, for example Pokhara, Biratnagar or Dubai, and press Search.
- If several places share the name, pick the right one from the short list.
- Prefer not to type? Tap the location pin and allow access, and the page shows the weather where you are. Your position is only used to ask for the forecast and is not stored by us.
- Switch between °C and °F with the button next to the pin. The wind changes between km/h and mph at the same time.
What the numbers mean
- Feels like combines temperature, wind and humidity. On a damp, windy day it can be several degrees away from the plain temperature, and it is the number that tells you what to wear.
- Humidity is how much water the air holds. High humidity makes hot days feel heavier and cold days feel colder.
- Wind shows the speed and the direction it is coming from, for example "12 km/h NW".
- Rain is measured in millimetres. A few millimetres is a light shower. Tens of millimetres in a day means proper rain, and it is worth planning around.
Weather in Nepal is not one thing
Few countries change as much over such a short distance. The Terai can be hot and humid while the Kathmandu valley is mild, and a village in the mountains, a day away, can be below freezing at night. For that reason it is worth searching the exact town or trailhead and not just the nearest big city. The monsoon, roughly June to September, brings most of the year's rain, and plans for travel, farming or building work often depend on the forecast for the next few days. Check it again the morning you leave, because mountain weather in particular can turn quickly.
How reliable is a forecast?
Today and tomorrow are usually dependable. The further ahead you look, the more the picture can change, so treat days five to seven as a rough guide to the trend and not a promise. If something important depends on it, such as an outdoor event, a flight or a trek, look again closer to the day, and follow official warnings from your local weather office when conditions look severe.
